We’re in Business: Selected Episodes from the Classic BBC Radio Comedy
"Eight episodes from the vintage radio comedy starring Peter Jones and Harry Worth First broadcast on the BBC Home Service, We’re in Business ran for two series between 1959 and 1960. It starred Peter Jones as dodgy small-time businessman Dudley Grosvenor, who’s always looking to make a fast buck with his crooked schemes – usually at the expense of his hapless sidekick, Harry (Harry Worth). Dudley spends his life lurching from one crisis to another, secure in the belief that “it might never happen' – but when it inevitably does, both men end up in a fix… Collected here are eight of the surviving episodes from Series 1 and 2, in which Dudley and Harry get involved in various comic misadventures – from being stitched up by Dudley’s devious elderly relative to monkeying around with a stuffed gorilla and attempting to flog off their landlady’s feathered friend… The episodes included are: Dudley’s Granny, Dudley and Harry's Reunion, Changing Rooms, The Gorilla, The Regimental Dinner, The Parrot, The Newspaper Business and Conscience Money. Written by Peter Jones and a team of comedy writers including the legendary Barry Took and Marty Feldman, these hilarious recordings also star Irene Handl and Dick Emery, with special guests including Beryl Reid, Hugh Paddick, Doris Hare and Wallas Eaton. NB: Due to the age of these recordings, some episodes contain dated attitudes and language Production credits Written by Peter Jones, George Wadmore, George Evans, Marty Feldman and Barry Took Produced by Charles Maxwell First broadcast on the BBC Home Service on the following dates: Dudley's Granny June 1959 Dudley and Harry's Reunion February 1960 Changing Rooms February 1960 The Gorilla March 1960 The Regimental Dinner March 1960 The Parrot March 1960 The Newspaper Business May 1960 Conscience Money May 1960 Cast Dudley Grosvenor – Peter Jones Harry – Harry Worth Granny/Miss Jubilee Boot – Irene Handl Lady Crabbe – Beryl Reid Sid/Mr Trumpet – Dick Emery Parrot – Peter Hawkins With Hugh Paddick, Doris Hare, Vivienne Martin, Paddy Edwards, Wallas Eaton, John Graham and Frederick Treves © 2024 BBC Studios Distribution Ltd. "Harriet Walter and Beryl Reid star in this full-cast adaptation of the much-loved children's classic. When spoilt young orphan Mary Lennox is brought back from India to live in her uncle’s house on the Yorkshire Moors, she finds the blunt ways of the staff at Misselthwaite Manor an unpleasant shock. Bored and miserable, it seems as though life in England will be awful. But Misselthwaite has hidden delights and, when Mary begins to discover them, nothing is the same again. First, there is the secret garden – and with it comes a boy who knows all the wonders of the country. He can even talk to the birds! Then, as the old house gives up its biggest secret, Mary forms a magical friendship. Frances Hodgson Burnett's charming story is played out with all the freshness and warmth of the original novel in this BBC Radio full-cast dramatization."

"Beryl Reid, OBE, (1919-1996) was one of Britain's much-loved comedy actresses. She won a BAFTA for Best Actress and received a lifetime achievement award at the British Comedy Awards. In this collection we hear - in her own words - about other funny women, as well as some of her well-known roles in The Belles of St Trinian's and Smiley's People, and the reaction to her role in The Killing of Sister George. She discusses her radio career and Educating Archie, as well as going to dancing school at 4 years old, becoming a success and playing the eccentric. She's also open about the challenge of maintaining relationships, her lack of confidence and having no regrets. Due to the age and nature of this archive material, the sound quality may vary. ©2022 BBC Studios Distribution Ltd (P)2022 BBC Studios Distribution Ltd"
