A group of Bristolian sixth-formers experience a whole lot more than the thrills and chills of the ski-slopes they’re expecting when one of their party discovers a trail of blood in their lodge. For outcast Charlie this trip was supposed to be a break from his troubled homelife, but he and his peers are now up to their necks in a gruesome, gory nightmare. Matters take a monstrous, mythical turn after ski instructor Hanna tells the students a tale “about things that lived in the woods. Things that only came out at night”… The action is jumpy, the writing sparse and direct, with plenty of unexpected twists to keep readers on the edge of their seats alongside the characters’ varied backstories. An accomplished debut for fans of atmospheric horror.
This creepy story is a great addition to the Red Eye horror series for teens. Sam moves into a new neighbourhood when his family come into some money. Everything looks lovely, but on their very first night in their new house a man is brutally murdered only yards away. There are more reports of missing people and it’s soon clear to Sam that under the shiny surface lurks something very nasty indeed. He’s determined to expose what’s going on, but things don’t go according to plan. The ending will provoke a satisfying shudder in readers! ~ Andrea Reece

Suspend disbelief and throw yourself into an action-packed, creepy tale. 16 year old Gabe finds himself on the wrong side of an ambitious drug dealer in Los Angeles and life takes an even sharper turn for the worse when he wakens a menacing, murdering apparition, obsessed with locating what has been lost. The author doesn't always explain every action or reaction, he allows the story to race ahead, maintaining suspense and encouraging the readers own imagination to run riot. Highlighting friendship and loyalty, ‘Bad Bones’ also proves that it can sometimes be very difficult to repair a wrong and initiate a right. Surrender to the story as it tears off into the realms of scary fantasy, but DON’T whatever you do, surrender to the sinister evil that has surfaced and refuses to die. ~ Liz Robinson
