The Indigenous World 2000/2001 Synopsis

The Indigenous World 2000-2001 details the most crucial developments that have recently affected indigenous peoples in the different regions of the world. With contributions from indigenous and non-indigenous scholars and activists, the book provides an overview of the current situation and crucial developments that have occurred globally. Included are reports on developments in China, North America, Laos, Vietnam, New Zealand, and a number of Pacific Islands which were not included in last year's volume.

The Indigenous World 2000-2001 includes a report describing the debate at the sixth session of the Commission on Human Rights Working Group, attended in Geneva in November 2000 by 43 governments and representatives from more than 71 indigenous and non-governmental organizations. The report evaluates the movement in positions within particular delegations and assesses the progress in building consensus in relation to the Declaration.

This annual work also contains updated information on international human rights efforts in addition to movements and changes in the indigenous organizational landscape.
