On the importance of the Bible in the life and worship of the Catholic Church. Fifty years ago the Second Vatican Council promulgated documents which still continue to guide the Church. One of the greatest of these was the Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation, popularly known as Dei Verbum. The Bishops of England and Wales, and of Scotland, in their teaching document The Gift of Scripture, build on Dei Verbum and subsequent Church teaching. This teaching document will further the 'new season of greater love for Sacred Scripture' promoted by Pope Benedict XVI in the Synod document Verbum Domini.This is a new edition of this document originally published in 2005.
