LoveReading Says
A compassionate and empowering guide for parents navigating the journey of raising neurodivergent children.
Drawing from her experiences as a social worker, mother of five, and being neurodivergent herself, Hayden offers a blend of professional insight and personal anecdotes that resonate deeply with readers. Without judgement. With love and kindness and empathy. This book genuinely, honestly, passionately and carefully delivers insight and oodles of support to parents navigating their neurodivergent journey.
As her daughter Chloé comments: "you can't have my mum, but you can have her book! Let her show you how to be the warrior your child needs."
Whether you are the parents of a newly diagnosed "neurosparkly" child, or you are thinking of exploring a diagnosis for your child, this will help you on your way to creating a better world. Filled with understanding and acceptance and the celebration of difference.
The book delves into various aspects of parenting, including diagnosis, family dynamics, schooling, therapy, and more. Hayden emphasizes the importance of understanding and celebrating each child's unique strengths rather than focusing on perceived deficits. She shares the transformative journey of her daughter, Chloé Hayden, whose autism and ADHD diagnoses reshaped their family's perspective and approach to parenting.
Hayden's narrative is both informative and heartfelt, offering practical tools and strategies to support neurodivergent children in thriving within a neurotypical world. Her candid discussions about her own late diagnosis at 48 and the challenges faced by her family provide authenticity and relatability.
With warmth, humour, and a touch of sparkle, Parenting Different serves as a valuable resource for parents seeking guidance and affirmation. It's a testament to the power of embracing neurodiversity and fostering an environment where every child can flourish.
