Hummingbirds Synopsis

Few birds dazzle and inspire as much as hummingbirds. With their iridescent feathers, bee-like movements, and affinity for brightly colored flowers, they readily draw people into their fast-paced and unique lives. Hummingbirds also play an important role as pollinators of many plants.

North America is blessed with an impressive diversity of "hummers," especially in the southwest US where up to 15 species can be seen in a single day in places like southeastern Arizona. While males are largely distinct from one another, females pose a greater identification challenge, so it helps to have a portable reference depicting the males and females of each species.
