The task Of the present editor has been, in the main, that of supplying notes and references which should embody the more important English and American de cisions, upon the topics of which this work treats, since the publication of the last edition. He has, in some in stances, however, enlarged and added to his predecessors' notes, though leaving them in general to stand as they were written.
