In this book, Duncan Lorimer reviews the techniques, results and open questions relating to the population of neutron stars as observed through their radio emission. Since their discovery in 1967, over 2000 radio pulsars have been found. The majority of these pulsars, rapidly spinning neutron stars, are found in the disk of the Milky Way, but a significant number are known in Galactic globular clusters and some are known in the Magellanic Clouds. Numerous research fields ranging from Galactic astrophysics, stellar evolution and gravitational wave astronomy, benefit from an understanding of the neutron star population, however the field itself is complex, with a rich body of literature over the past 40 years. The book aims to rapidly train beginning students, postdoctoral scholars and more senior scientists wishing to work in this field via succinct summaries of key results and concepts, sample research problems and exercises as well as compelling graphical information.
