My dear Sir,<br><br>The permission which you gave when, last year, I proposed the compilation of this little volume, to inscribe it to you, is one of the chief reasons of the renewal of my wish to publish it. I cannot decline the opportunity of recording that the exertions of those to whom the charge of the Copyright Bill has fallen, have been aided by the advice, and cheered by the kindness, of one whose genius naturally sympathises with the efforts of those who write for posterity; who, unchanged by the excitements and successes of parliamentary life, cherishes academical associations with reverent ardor; and who, amidst the cares and the struggles of party, pursues Truth with as patient labour, and as single an aim, as the heroic student of other times.
