Neil MacGregor has selected objects that can tell us a story about the world that Shakespeare knew – a goblet, a hat, a medal and more, all have a story to tell and in MacGregor’s hands they bring the age alive with the objects themselves bringing to light much inconsequential and fascinating information it would be hard to glean from a hundred books dedicated to Shakespeare. Accessible and so very readable, an excellent idea makes for an excellent history.

About the Author

Neil MacGregor has been Director of the British Museum since 2002. Before that he was Director of the National Gallery from 1987 to 2002. He was 'Briton of the Year' in 2008.
