Zacharias Zachariou received his MD at the University of Heidelberg and trained as a specialist in General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery at the same University. In 2003 he was appointed as Chairman and Director of the Department of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Berne/Switzerland. He returned to his homeland Cyprus and established the Medical School of the University of Cyprus serving as the first Dean and Director of Studies. He His research work contributed to the application of minimal invasive surgery in children, as well as to small bowel transplantation in children and the treatment of undescended testes. He published a significant number of original contributions, has published 3 books, and 4 CDs /DVDs applying new technologies in medical education. He serves as Editor-in-Chief in the major international Journals of Pediatric Surgery.
