Peter, the only child of John and Margaret Hunt, was born in Brighton on 5th July, 1940 but, at the age of five, began his formative childhood in post-war Hong Kong.
At the age of seven, he was sent back to England to complete his education as a boarder first at Worth Preparatory school and, from age thirteen, at Downside Public School. He completed that phase of his education at Trinity College, Dublin, where he studied English and Italian.
He moved to London where he began his career in advertising and marketing taking a sabbatical to graduate from Cranfield's School of Management. From there, he worked for Jimmy Goldsmith marketing confectionery before moving on to work for the Jamaican Government marketing Jamaican products in Europe and, finally, with his stepson setting up a number of retail American sports shops, called Slick Willies, and an import company, called American Actionwear.
