Gerald Barrax is the author of four previous volumes of poetry published between 1970 and 1992: Leaning Against the Sun; The Deaths of Animals and Lesser Gods; An Audience of One; and Another Kind of Rain. In 1997 he retired from North Carolina State University, where he was poet in residence and professor of English. Prior to teaching, he held a variety of occupations, including steel industry laborer, cab driver, postal clerk carrier, and U.S. air force serviceman. Born in Alabama, he now lives in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
