Dr. Daisy Shu is a Scientia Senior Lecturer in the School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney. The Shu lab explores the role of mitochondrial and metabolic dysfunction in retinal eye diseases including age-related macular degeneration and proliferative vitreoretinopathy. She is focused on the molecular mechanisms of epithelial- and endothelial-mesenchymal transition in retinal disease. She completed her PhD at the University of Sydney, Australia under the mentorship of Professor Frank Lovicu investigating the pathogenesis of fibrotic cataract. Her postdoctoral training was completed in the laboratories of Dr. Magali Saint-Geniez and Dr. Leo Kim at Schepens Eye Research Institute of Mass Eye and Ear in the Department of Ophthalmology of Harvard Medical School focused on exploring the cellular and molecular mechanisms underpinning retinal wound healing and fibrosis, with a particular focus on epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT).
