Chris Stone Books

Chris Stone brings both expertise and infectious enthusiasm to this investigative exploration of Europe’s remarkable desertic landscapes. Widely published as an academic, he is a graduate of one of the UK’s pioneering environmental degree programmes and has spent his career advocating for nature conservation and sustainability.

His professional experience spans policy, practice, and research — from planning wildlife conservation in the heathlands of Suffolk to working as a managing consultant in environmental planning and tourism. After three decades teaching sustainability at UK universities, ‘European Deserts’ represents Chris’s return to his lifelong mission of protecting the natural world, at a time when the biodiversity crisis has never been more urgent.
