You badly need to know what happens in both decades. Spun round the music industry, the launch of a girl band and the highs and lows of a cut-throat business, this is a cut-above the norm. You get completely bound up in the lives of these desperate people, colourful characters that leap off the page. An addictive novel, unpredictable and very good indeed, I loved it.
