The Frequency of Us

The Frequency of Us, so individual yet beautifully rewarding, would make a perfect Book Club read. It was chosen as a LoveReading Star Book when it came out in hardback, and August sees the much anticipated paperback publication. In essence The Frequency of Us (what a clever title) highlights what it is to be human while encouraging thoughts and feelings to soar. It also contains an element that may be described as fantastical, so will surely get everyone talking! Keith Stuart is a favourite author of mine, each of his reads stands alone, feels completely different, yet the writing is always unmistakably him. If you’ve not yet stepped foot into his writing world, prepare to be transported, to experience something just that little (or a lot) different. It is a tad difficult with this one to form questions without spoilers, so bear with me!

1. Did you feel the sense of place surrounding you as you read, do you think the location was a key element?

2. How did you connect to Will and Laura when they met, were you able to immediately look beyond the assessment of dementia?

3. How did the two time frames make you feel, were you able to easily transfer between the two?

4. How do you feel the inclusion of the Second World War affected the telling of the story?

5. How did the age difference affect the relationship between Will and Laura?

6. True love, do you think it exists?

7. Discuss the fantastical element of the novel.

8. How did the ending make you feel?

9. Different/unique/individual, all words that could sum up this book, any others?

10. How would you recommend this novel without including any spoilers?
