May 2008 Book of the Month.
Stephenie Meyer has written a series for teens ,‘The Twilight Series’, which has been incredibly popular, set in a world where vampires and werewolves co-exist, fight with, and, even fall in love with humans. They are great fun and now she has turned her attention to entertaining a more adult audience with this new book. No vampires and werewolves in this one, but a species that is taking over the world by inhabiting the bodies of humans. Her writing is thoroughly absorbing, which is just as well considering this is over 600 pages long, but Meyer has a knack for always leaving you wanting more at the end of her tales. Romance and science fiction are mixed brilliantly for a great read.

Synopsis
The Host by Stephenie Meyer
Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.
Wanderer, the invading ‘soul’ who has been given Melanie’s body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
Melanie fills Wanderer’s thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body’s desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she’s never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

“A fascinating, passionate, and unique psychological thriller. In The Host, Stephenie Meyer gives a new and surprising meaning to the phrase ‘being of two minds!’'— Katherine Neville, author of The Eight
