A truly captivating and bold story that stings and provokes with fierce intensity. David Raker is back in his seventh missing person enquiry, a woman has apparently vanished into thin air, can Raker find her, or will he in fact lose himself? If you haven't yet read any of the ‘David Raker Thriller’ series, do go back to the beginning and start with ‘Chasing the Dead’. From the get go in ‘Broken Heart’, my attention was well and truly snared, I wanted to insist to Raker that he took the case. Tim Weaver’s writing ensured I felt, I believed, I lived the story. Occasionally another voice, other than Raker’s is heard, this effectively jolted me away from the investigation, made me think, made me ponder… ‘Broken Heart’ is clever and fascinating, a story where trendrils of awareness coil and twist and expand into one wonderfully intriguing and powerful tale. ~ Liz Robinson
August 2014 Book of the Month. The follow up to Never Coming Back sees David Raker helping Melanie Craw, a Met police officer from the earlier book, find her missing father, also a Met police officer now retired to Dartmoor. This all harks back to a ‘cold case’ of some twenty years earlier when a woman was murdered. Melanie’s father now appears to be investigating the crime privately. It seems not everyone is as clean and honest as they appear. With bent coppers, corruption and jealousy, the mystery unfolds in an off-shore island hospital, all very intriguing. It follows on from his last book but is quite happy to be read on its own.
One of our Books of the Year 2013. A fantastic read which is truly unputdownable. There are many threads at the centre of which lies an old photograph. There are many dead bodies too (12)! Silenced witnesses, crooked police and a terrific protagonist. I loved every stolen moment of it despite it dripping in blood. Highly recommended. September 2013 Book of the Month. In addition to our Lovereading expert opinion for Never Coming Back a small number of Lovereading members were lucky enough to be invited to review this title - 'A cracking fast paced story in the David Raker series. You will not want to put it down.' - Marion McCaffery. Scroll down to read more reviews. Creating David Raker by Tim Weaver... 'I became very interested in the idea of writing a series when I fell in love with the work of Michael Connelly. His taut, brilliant Harry Bosch novels were a conduit to the world of American crime fiction, to classic characters like Philip Marlowe and Lew Archer, and to modern masters like James Ellroy. But while the genius of Chandler and MacDonald – and especially their creations – was obvious, what I loved in particular about Connelly’s books was the fact that Bosch’s world never stopped moving. It evolved. It grew. It lived.' Click here to read the full comment.
