The novel takes us into a world of wizards, vampires and gods following a particular family as they use their powers to influence the life that they want whilst competing against each other sometimes to the point of death. We see the battle in individuals as they switch between good & bad personalities, one trying to outweigh the other to be the stronger element of their person. The story does move between the past, present and future which can be confusing but does also support the story of challenging their own fate to improve the future. It can be linked to a thought that destiny can be changed if actions are changed but at what cost? Edward, unfortunately, learnt that later than he would want. The story comes to a logical conclusion but be prepared for many twists and turns along the way.
