'It's not me then?' she says. A little bit of my heart breaks, and I struggle to swallow down the lump in my throat. 'No Jane, it's not you. You were right.' Why won't he ever let you use his phone? Why is he always going on about that girl from work? Is he cheating on you? There's one way to find out - ask him. Then (when he lies) call Rebecca Jane, founder and owner of the Lady Detective Agency. The Agency is one of the UK's most successful female private detective services. It exists for one purpose: to find the truth. Whether that means trailing a transsexual prostitute through the streets of London, following suspected cheats on stag parties, tracking down someone's beloved three-legged cat or uncovering famous people's affairs, Rebecca and her elite team will help. Whatever it takes. Their extraordinary dedication stems from first-hand experience of deception. Here Rebecca not only reveals her clients' fascinating stories, but her own rollercoaster journey too - from early success to crushing failure, scandal, abuse and affairs, and ultimately to finding true love. At times heartbreaking, hilarious and eye-opening, this vibrantly-written compilation of stories introduces us to a sparkling and witty new voice in Rebecca and her crack team of female detectives who are always ready to solve any case, no matter how big or small. For the first time, the Agency is opening its doors and revealing its secrets. Guilty consciences beware.
January 2013 Debut of the Month and eBook of the Month. This is a remarkable debut novel, vivid and evocative and perfectly capturing the troubled lives of a group of super privileged teens in the Reagan era. One reviewer in the US called it a ‘distant cousin of the Great Gatsby’ and this stylish novel will have great appeal for fans of American fiction in the vein of The Secret History by Donna Tartt.
January 2013 Debut of the Month. This part crime novel, part sci-fi book is highly recommended - but it’s one where you really don’t want to know too much of the plot or a lot of the book is spoilt. It’s devious, dark, and audacious and definitely worth a read.
The final explosive conclusion in a three book series full of glitz, glamour and dark magic. Jane Boyle has to complete the task of destroying her ex Mother-in-Law, uber socialite Lynne Doran - who is also an evil body snatching witch - that generations of good witches before her have failed to do (with terminal consequences!). Grown up reading for fans of Gossip Girl and Vampire Diaries. 666 Park Avenue Series:1. 666 Park Avenue2. The Dark Glamour3. The Lost Soul
January 2013 Debut of the Month. Set in the wilds of Maine this is a cleverly written, action-packed debut. A cop is killed and game warden Mike Bowditch must track down his abusive, hard-drinking father, the prime suspect, to prove his innocence. Brilliant characterisation teamed with stunning descriptions of the area and a plot as winding and convoluted as an old forest trail make for a very satisfying read.
January 2013 eBook of the Month. Eighth in the gritty, grim and totally addictive crime series starring DS Logan McRae. Burning bodies, bits of bone and overbearing superiors are the least of DS McRae's worries as a series of gruesome murders, seemingly following a bestselling novel, dominate the Aberdeenshire constabulary.
January 2013 Book of the Month and eBook of the Month. This is a gritty, graphic, disturbing psychological thriller and it is very good. A girl is abducted and tortured in New York, another is found horribly mutilated and left in a dumpster in Miami seemingly unrelated; but a Miami policeman and attorney find a lead which hints at something altogether worse. Required reading for any fan of Patricia Cornwell, Kathy Reichs or Karin Slaughter.
A wonderful memoir about life as a nursery nurse and nanny in the 1960s, for fans of Call the Midwife. The stories of the children Pam looked after are heart-warming and heartbreaking, sad and uplifting. This is the story of a woman who dedicated herself to caring for children who didn’t have the luxury of their own parents’ time and affection.
January 2013 Debut of the Month. First in a series of deliciously indulgent and funny books following the ups and downs in life and work for sales assistant, Georgie Hart, who loves her job running the luxury handbags concession in a seaside department store. But the arrival of femme fatale ‘cost cutter’ Maxine means that she finds herself having to fend off more than avid shoppers.
