Politicians and sex scandals have been the subject of many a fiction (and fact but, I still can’t picture Edwina and John having sex). However, this book is (we are lead to believe) a true account (names withheld) and it makes for pretty lurid reading (you have been warned!). We follow our anonymous politician through increasingly exotic encounters involving a fair number of other politicians. Unsurprisingly the identity of the author is much sought after as it would make pages of tabloid coverage. However, you have to ask, why write the book if you want to stay anonymous? And if you do know who the author is just drop us a quick email!
A Maxim Jakubowski selected title. It's a shame that the success of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY hasn't given a boost (with a few rare exceptions) to the better writers of erotica who'd been writing much more superior books before E.L. James hit the bedrooms. Lloyd has long been one of the more interesting and challenging authors in the sometimes formulaic Black Lace stable and deserves her time in the spotlight. This erotic thriller is the stuff of dark, venomous fantasies and provides a mean kick in the gut and the emotions. A dead man in a swimming pool following a night of sexual excess is the departure point for a tale of obsessions and sometimes disturbing insights into the female psyche. No one does damaged characters better than Lloyd and has a clearer open line to the well of cravings and obsessions.
A follow-up to last year’s impressive ULTIMATE BURLESQUE charity anthology, with proceeds going to breast cancer charity, this new offering is no less red hot as it examines decadence in all its variations and dangerous corners. Twosomes, threesomes, lust at its most naked and vulnerable, desires pushed beyond the limits of propriety, every colour in the alphabet of emotions makes an appearance and more. And a bed of roses on the cover, as well as a charitable cause to support. How can one resist?
EMILY DUBBERLEY & ALY FIXTER - Another outstanding collection of red hot stories, with proceeds going to breast cancer charity, ULTIMATE BURLESQUE celebrates the art of strip tease with new tales from the creme de la creme of Britain’s new generation of erotic writers. The first in a new sexy trilogy firmly aimed at fans of 50 Shades and the Vina Jackson books and it won’t disappoint. Her head says run but the rest of her body disagrees 100%! Already a hit in the eBook market with facebook fans and the twiterati posting countless ‘must read’ messages - go on you know you want to. The follow up to This Man is Beneath This Man. Self-publishing and Me by Jodi Ellen Malpas.'I was about to make my story available for a stranger to read. I’d designed my cover, completed every field required and uploaded my story. Could it be this easy? What if they hate it? What if they love it? What if my soul on paper was a load of rubbish? Who knew? But I’d never find out unless I clicked that self-publish button.There.Done.I’m not quite sure what happened from that point on. Total madness seems apt because that’s exactly what it has been – a non-stop rollercoaster of ups and downs. I’ve been in this world for under a year, but I feel like I’ve gained a lifetime of knowledge in that short time. Would I do anything different? Yes, I’d have read the wealth of information available on Amazon’s KDP site a hundred times instead of fifty. I would have also made myself more familiar with the on line community of readers, writers and bloggers, who are instrumental in the marketing and promotion of self-published authors. If you plan on self-publishing, find that community. It’ll open up a whole new world to you. Every self-published author’s dream is to have a traditional publishing house invest in them – a huge organisation that has faith in your work and will put your book in the shops, help you market and promote it, and reach an even wider audience. Incredibly, I’ve got that now. I’m so glad I clicked that self-publish button.'Jodi Ellen Malpas is the author of the This Man trilogy, published in paperback by Orion Fiction on 10th October/24th October/30th January, priced £7.99, and in ebook format priced £4.99.
February 2007 Book of the MonthA fast-paced sexy psychological thriller that will keep you glued the whole way through. M. J. Rose has endorsements from some of the best in crime writing and deservedly so. The plot is interesting, centred around a killer selecting victims from girls who perform webcam pornography. The main character, a sexual psycologist who just happens to be involved with the handsome and sophisticated detective in charge of the case, is convincingly written and has a great deal of depth to her. If you like Karin Slaughter or Patricia Cornwell then you will not be disappointed with M. J. Rose and if you're new to her then she also has three other books for you to enjoy!
Yeong-hye and her husband are ordinary people. He is an office worker with moderate ambitions and mild manners; she is an uninspired but dutiful wife. The acceptable flatline of their marriage is interrupted when Yeong-hye, seeking a more 'plant-like' existence, decides to become a vegetarian, prompted by grotesque recurring nightmares. In South Korea, where vegetarianism is almost unheard-of and societal mores are strictly obeyed, Yeong-hye's decision is a shocking act of subversion. Her passive rebellion manifests in ever more bizarre and frightening forms, leading her bland husband to self-justified acts of sexual sadism. His cruelties drive her towards attempted suicide and hospitalisation. She unknowingly captivates her sister's husband, a video artist. She becomes the focus of his increasingly erotic and unhinged artworks, while spiralling further and further into her fantasies of abandoning her fleshly prison and becoming - impossibly, ecstatically - a tree. Fraught, disturbing and beautiful, The Vegetarian is a novel about modern day South Korea, but also a novel about shame, desire and our faltering attempts to understand others, from one imprisoned body to another.
A Maxim Jakubowski selected title. Jane and Bill, a London couple whose relationship is enduring the pressures of time but harbours some element of dissatisfaction, come across Lilah in a pub. She is sex incarnate, a creature of a thousand temptations, and her allure instantly attracts both of them. They invite her back to their home and we are introduced to a veritable bacchanal of an odyssey of sex, taboo-breaking and the most devious of psychological manipulations as seductions follow in quick succession and a point of no return is soon reached. For Lilah is a supernatural sprite and predator intent on dominating both men and women in a runaround dance of emotions, lust and extremes which sees the married couple suffer all the possible permutations from desire to hate as they regress to their primal nature. A curious erotic novel from a prize-winning established novelist hitherto working in different areas of the novel and none the worse for it. ~ Maxim Jakubowski
The first collection by one the brightest rising stars in British erotica, this is an uncommonly varied and intelligent set of stories which, while remaining hot and particularly provocative, often veer off into new and unexpected directions, and confirm Stein as a name to watch in the future. Strong female characters, wit to spare and delightfully subversive fantasies make this a gem of a book.
Literature has addressed sex throughout history. The joys and complexities are shown in 'The Song of Solomon' in the Bible. Byron, Chacer and Donne are famous for their compemplations on sex and desire.
Provocative prose is not simply pornographic, and product created simply to excite and arouse. Provocative prose stands apart as it is able to offer excitement while also deliviering social commentary and an examination of human feelings and behaviour. This genre can help you to think more deeply about sex, desire and how are attitudes to this topic are formed and what impact they have.
One of the most famous literary erotica would be Lady Chatterly's Lover by D.H. Lawrence, which manages to combine titilation and provocation while also offering character development, and an examination of the theme.
While some will still find these books shocking and a step too far. However there are marvelous modern authors such as Henry Miller, Anais Nin, and Annie Rice with her 'Sleeping Beauty' series which was published under the name Anne Roquelaure. With the development and exploration of this genre, there is a wide and varied selection of books for those interested in indulging.
