I rather enjoyed this book. A romance with a difference. Not your usual light romance, which I much prefer, something with a touch of the dark side about it. Grey finally leaves New York and a whole load of baggage behind her and heads to Berry Springs to rebuild her life. After a setback or two, she meets Declan, someone with his own history. Having said that he only appears in the book a third of the way through. The first part deals with Grey’s life challenges and how she takes them on. Ultimately, they both want to turn their lives around. I liked this book, it was refreshing and had honesty in it. Well written and plenty going on to keep my interest. Thanks for the opportunity to read this. Helen Lowry, A LoveReading Ambassador
Years ago, the skies ripped open and the world was destroyed in fire and ash. Dragons-once creatures of legend-are the enemy. Vicious and unpredictable, they rule the skies of the ruined cities, forcing humanity to huddle behind barricades for safety. Claudia's a survivor. She scrapes by as best as she can in a hard, dangerous world. When she runs afoul of the law, she's left as bait in dragon territory. She only has one chance to survive-to somehow 'tame' a dragon and get it to obey her. Except the dragon that finds her is as wild and brutal as any other . . . and he's not interested in obeying. What he is interested in is a mate. Contains mature themes.
The Rake is Taken is the second in the ‘League of Lords’ series created by Tracy Summer. A historical Romance set mainly in 1870s England, this book tells the story of Finn Alexander and Lady Victoria Hamilton, as their unique abilities and futures cross and begin to intertwine. This story interested me from the beginning, I liked the depth of each of the characters and the twists and trunks in the plot that kept me intrigued and eager to know more. There’s a slow build in the relationship between Finn and Victoria, both uncertain of the other while Victoria comes to understand the true extent of her paranormal abilities. There's tension and plenty of steam in this novel, and I found it incredibly well-crafted. I liked to learn about the family dynamic in The League and the way the characters interacted. I enjoyed the changes in narrative perspective through this paranormal romance, it made me connect with the characters more and really root for them as I read. Although this book is the second in the series, if I hadn’t have seen the list of Tracy Summer’s books at the start, I wouldn’t have noticed. Brief research shows that the first book in the series, The Lady is Trouble, introduces you to some of the secondary characters, but the storyline is complete in ‘The Rake is Taken’ and it would appear we’ll be able to learn more about other characters in later books in the series. This is a short but highly readable supernatural romance set in Victorian England.
Nudey Beach tells the story of Amber Stone, while in the process of leaving an abusive relationship she books into a Sophia Classique static caravan near the beach to finish her “truly dreadful” book. During her time at the caravan park, as she waits for her intimidating spectre of an ex-boyfriend to leave their home, she discovers a naturist beach that she soon becomes a regular at. As Amber gets to know the locals she finds herself attracted to one particular visitor and local artist, Luke. Like Desperate Housewives, things heat up behind the doors of an unassuming caravan park, and as a reader we don’t seem to miss any of it. With plenty of action and a dramatic conclusion this book isn’t shy, and may not be for those who blush easily. I thought Nudey Beach was an interesting read. I found the characters and the setting believable and entertaining and it would be a good recommendation for those looking for a relationship story with more mature themes.

Sofia, Bulgaria, a landlocked city in southern Europe, stirs with hope and impending upheaval. Soviet buildings crumble, wind scatters sand from the far south, and political protesters flood the streets with song. In this atmosphere of disquiet, an American teacher navigates a life transformed by the discovery and loss of love. As he prepares to leave the place he’s come to call home, he grapples with the intimate encounters that have marked his years abroad, each bearing uncanny reminders of his past. A queer student’s confession recalls his own first love, a stranger’s seduction devolves into paternal sadism, and a romance with a younger man opens, and heals, old wounds. Each echo reveals startling insights about what it means to seek connection: with those we love, with the places we inhabit, and with our own fugitive selves. Cleanness revisits and expands the world of Garth Greenwell’s beloved debut, What Belongs to You, declared ‘an instant classic’ by the New York Times Book Review. In exacting, elegant prose, Greenwell transcribes the strange dialects of desire, cementing his stature as one of our most vital living writers.
In her mid-thirties, Lucy-Anne Holmes still felt like a novice when it came to sex. But when she tried to find out what she could do about it, she realised everything she googled was geared to male pleasure rather than to women's. Determined not to let this stop her, Lucy penned a list and set out to discover what her sex life was missing. She embarked on an adventure which would change her life. Lucy has written the book about sex she wanted to read. It will make you snort with laughter one minute and weep the next; it is frank, eye-opening and inspiring, and will speak to women everywhere.
I have been waiting to read this book for a long time, so long that I almost wrote it myself. Thank you Michael Tappenden for saving me the trouble and thank you A Long Dark Rainbow for being a far better read than I could ever have made of it. This is the story of Samantha and Alex, two septuagenarians, who meet each other again by chance after forty-odd years and realise that things could have been a lot different in their lives. Both very damaged by their previous relationships, they contemplate trying again though with serious concerns about the practicalities and fears surrounding self-image, physical capabilities and emotional adaptability. It follows their journey as they define, explore and finally, with mutual support, openness and honesty, expand their boundaries, building a healing and fulfilling relationship. The writing is explicit without being gratuitous or offensive and displays a genuine understanding of how important and difficult personal interactions are at any age but that, with advancing years, there are added dimensions that younger people might not necessarily appreciate. The author chose a quote from the Talmud to preface his work, which sets the tone completely and is very moving. 'For the unlearned, old age is winter. For the learned, it is the season of the harvest'. Readers of a mature age will find much here that will resonate and maybe inspire, whilst younger generations will hopefully see their elders in a different light. An enthralling read, thoroughly recommended. Drena Irish, A LoveReading Ambassador

Written in Singlish - “a tossed salad of the different languages and Chinese dialects that the country’s multiethnic population speaks” - this exhilarating novel follows brazen Jazzy’s mission to marry a wealthy “ang moh” (white) man. Almost 27, she warns her friends that ”if we don’t get married, engaged or even nail down a boyfriend soon—my god, we might as well go ahead and book a room at Singapore Casket… But luckily for us, we still have one big hope: ang moh guys”, because “if you wear a tight tight dress or short short skirt, these ang mohs will still steam over you”. To this end, Jazzy’s life is an intense cycle of spending her days working for a newspaper editor who likes to “rubba rubba” his employees, followed by long nights at fancy clubs. Through her predatory attitude and enduring of a whole lot of objectification, this novel is razor-sharp on male entitlement, inequality, racial stereotypes and global capitalism. Indeed, Jazzy wasn’t always a Sarong Party Girl herself: “I would see women who are so obviously going after guys just for status and really look down on them. What kind of woman is so pathetic to chase after a husband just for the kind of handbag, car or condo they can buy them?” And then one night, it seems that enough is enough. Jazzy has an epiphany at dawn after a one hell of a wake-up call night out. What a fresh, funny and wildly acerbic treat this is.
