Nicholls said: "I'm both surprised and delighted by the award and would like to thank everyone who took the trouble to vote."
The Awards Ceremony for the inaugural Galaxy National Book of the Year Awards took place in November at the BBC TV studios and were broadcast on More4. The winners of the awards were as follows:
