Having made way too many impulsive purchases of kitchen equipment in my time, this would be a most welcome guide to the now huge range of “stuff” available to modern cooks. It goes from the simple for the back to basics type of cook and the eco-conscious right up to the bells and whistles type of high end equipment that would probably take your coat off for you if you asked it. A symbol to the amount of washing up involved would have been useful, as remembering my juicer it was soon back to the wooden reamer! ~ Sue Baker Like for Like Reading: Consider the Fork by Bee Wilson You might also like to consider the following but they are both out of print: Kitchen Things: An Album of Vintage Utensils, Richard Snodgrass (9781626360365) In Praise of Slow: How a Worldwide Movement is Challenging the Cult of Speed, Carl Honore (9780752864143)

'Sumptuous simple recipes, inspired by Alex's travels and family gatherings.' Mary Berry 'Home cooking that is perfectly suited for midweek family meals or special occasions with friends. Enjoy it people!' Tom Kerridge As Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood freely admits, it's his wife Alex who is in charge of cooking in the Hollywood household. She's the one who plans, shops and cooks so they can enjoy delicious home-made food with family and friends. An accomplished self-taught cook who comes from a family of food-lovers, Alex is passionate about food but firmly believes that cooking and eating are about one thing: enjoyment. Her recipes fall into one of two categories -- quick and simple for when you don't have much time during the week, or slow and simple for a lazy weekend at home. But simple doesn't mean ordinary. With a few clever twists and drawing on influences from her travels and her family (a glamorous French grandma, a father brought up in Spain and a Norwegian great grandmother) Alex's recipes are easy, inexpensive and just a little bit different. For anyone who wants inspiration for quick mid-week meals, impromptu kitchen suppers with friends or relaxed weekend socials, My Busy Kitchen is the book for you.

Perfect for the wine novice! If, like me, you wonder at the huge range of wines on the shelves of a shop, the strengths and weaknesses of different types, how a wine you like that is produced in Argentina compares to its counterpart from California, then this book is for you. If, like me, you also enjoy wine but would like to widen your range of enjoyment, this book will tell you how. In easy to follow, non-patronising chapters, it covers history, production, tastes and regions – to name just a few of the wide-ranging aspects of wine production. It covers how to store wine, how to serve it, and what to serve it with. Mysteries solved, and in such a way the answers are at your fingertips. Lastly – and especially relevant for novices like me – the Pocket Bible tells you how to buy wine so, if you should find a particular taste you like, you will learn of similar wines that should appeal. Excellent – and a perfect size to slip in the pocket for the next trip to the supermarket.
