This book provides a comprehensive introduction to rough set-based feature selection. Rough set theory, first proposed by Zdzislaw Pawlak in 1982, continues to evolve. Concerned with the classification and analysis of imprecise or uncertain information and knowledge, it has become a prominent tool for data analysis, and enables the reader to systematically study all topics in rough set theory (RST) including preliminaries, advanced concepts, and feature selection using RST. The book is supplemented with an RST-based API library that can be used to implement several RST concepts and RST-based feature selection algorithms. The book provides an essential reference guide for students, researchers, and developers working in the areas of feature selection, knowledge discovery, and reasoning with uncertainty, especially those who are working in RST and granular computing. The primary audience of this book is the research community using rough set theory (RST) to perform feature selection (FS) on large-scale datasets in various domains. However, any community interested in feature selection such as medical, banking, and finance can also benefit from the book. This second edition also covers the dominance-based rough set approach and fuzzy rough sets. The dominance-based rough set approach (DRSA) is an extension of the conventional rough set approach and supports the preference order using the dominance principle. In turn, fuzzy rough sets are fuzzy generalizations of rough sets. An API library for the DRSA is also provided with the second edition of the book.
This book is intended for specialists as well as students and graduate students in the field of artificial intelligence, robotics and information technology. It is will also appeal to a wide range of readers interested in expanding the functionality of artificial intelligence systems. One of the pressing problems of modern artificial intelligence systems is the development of integrated hybrid systems based on deep learning. Unfortunately, there is currently no universal methodology for developing topologies of hybrid neural networks (HNN) using deep learning. The development of such systems calls for the expansion of the use of neural networks (NS) for solving recognition, classification and optimization problems. As such, it is necessary to create a unified methodology for constructing HNN with a selection of models of artificial neurons that make up HNN, gradually increasing the complexity of their structure using hybrid learning algorithms.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Scalable Uncertainty Management, SUM 2020, which was held in Bozen-Bolzano, Italy, in September 2020. The 12 full, 7 short papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 30 submissions. Besides that, the book also contains 2 abstracts of invited talks, 2 tutorial papers, and 2 PhD track papers. The conference aims to gather researchers with a common interest in managing and analyzing imperfect information from a wide range of fields, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, databases, information retrieval and data mining, the semantic web and risk analysis. Due to the Corona pandemic SUM 2020 was held as an virtual event.
The book provides readers with an overview of the state of the art in the field of Industry 4.0 and related research advancements. The respective chapters identify and discuss new dimensions of both risk factors and success factors, along with performance metrics that can be employed in future research work. They also discuss a number of real-time issues, problems and applications with corresponding solutions and suggestions. Sharing new theoretical findings, tools and techniques for Industry 4.0, and covering both theoretical and application-oriented approaches, the book offers a valuable asset for newcomers to the field and practicing professionals alike.
This book gathers the outcomes of the 7th International Conference on Applied Computing and Information Technology (ACIT 2019), which was held on May 29-31, 2019 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The aim of the conference was to bring together researchers and scientists, businesspeople and entrepreneurs, teachers, engineers, computer users, and students to discuss the various fields of computer science and to share their experiences and exchange new ideas and information in a meaningful way. Further, they presented research results on all aspects (theory, applications and tools) of computer and information science, and discussed the practical challenges encountered in their work and the solutions they adopted to overcome them. The book highlights the best papers from those accepted for presentation at the conference. They were chosen based on review scores submitted by members of the program committee and underwent further rigorous rounds of review. From this second round, 15 of the conference's most promising papers were selected for this Springer (SCI) book and not the conference proceedings. We eagerly await the important contributions that we know these authors will make to the field of computer and information science.
