Outspoken

Author: Deborah Coughlin Format: Hardback Release Date: 05/11/2019

History didn't listen to women, but that never stopped them from speaking out ... A lot of history is made up of speeches. Speeches about big ideas, celebratory speeches, rousing speeches to inspire soldiers to fight to the death, comic speeches to help us see the funny side to life. From Jesus to Winston Churchill to Martin Luther King Jr. and even Donald Trump, we've been raised with the words of important men ringing in our ears ... But where are all the women? Unless you're the type of person who loves researching suffrage speeches, you are unlikely to know many soundbites from women throughout history. Outspoken: 50 Speeches by Incredible Women is going to change that. From Joan of Arc and Virginia Woolf, to Oprah Winfrey and Greta Thunberg, this is a celebration of outstanding and outspoken women everywhere.

Voices of History

Voices of History

Author: Simon Sebag Montefiore Format: Hardback Release Date: 19/09/2019

VOICES OF HISTORY celebrates the great speeches of world history and cultural life. In this exuberant collection, acclaimed historian Simon Sebag Montefiore takes us on a journey from ancient times to the twenty-first century: some speeches are heroic and inspiring; some diabolical and atrocious; some are exquisite and poignant; others cruel and chilling. The speakers themselves vary from empresses and conquerors to novelists, sportsmen, dreamers and killers, from Churchill and Elizabeth I to Stalin and Genghis Khan, and from Michelle Obama and Cleopatra to Nehru and Muhammad Ali. All human drama is here: from the carnage of battlefields to the theatre of courtrooms, from table-talk to audiences of millions, from desperate last stands to orations of triumph, from noble calls for liberation to genocidal rants, from foolish delusions and strange confessions to defiant resistance and heartbreaking farewells, VOICES OF HISTORY spans centuries, continents and cultures. In the accessible and gripping style of a master storyteller, Montefiore shows why these seventy speeches are essential reading, and how they enlighten our past, enrich our present and inspire - and hold warnings for - our future.

Speeches and Articles 2013 - 2017

Author: David Cadman Format: Hardback Release Date: 15/08/2019

In 2014, Volumes One and Two of the speeches and articles of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales were archived and published by the University of Wales Press. This third volume of the speeches and articles of The Prince of Wales includes a thematic expansion to the section on `Climate Change and Sustainability', accommodating a number of texts that address the interconnected relationship between economic, social and environmental sustainability. As The Prince of Wales marks his seventieth birthday, we note a significant achievement. Over the years, in broader terms, his words and actions have received little publicity, but matters on which The Prince has voiced concern have subsequently risen on the agenda for a great many other thoughtful and well-informed observers. It is hoped that among the merits of this archive is its record of The Prince's contribution, which will allow a fair and balanced assessment of his singularly remarkable contribution.
