Luis Garcia was one of the most talented artists of the legendary Spanish Invasion which transformed Warren comics in the 1970s, creating artwork that was both stunningly attractive and astonishingly realistic. Garcia drew for all the Warren titles but was particularly associated with Vampirella magazine where his innovative artwork and gift for drawing beautiful women was a highlight for several years. But his career encompassed far more than just horror comics; starting off as an artist of seductive romance strips, he went on to find fame in France drawing for Pilote magazine, was a pioneer of autobiographical and political comics, created some of the earliest and most accomplished graphic novels and then changed careers completely to become a world class painter. For the first time anywhere in the world The Art of Luis Garcia brings together each phase of his career to create the first comprehensive retrospective of his amazing artwork. Each chapter details his work and life with historical analysis from artist and author David Roach (The Art of Vampirella, Masters of Spanish Comic Art), together with commentary and reminiscences from Luis Garcia himself. This is the first comprehensive overview of the 20-year career of British artist Hurvin Anderson (b.1965). Anderson is known for painting loosely rendered `observations' of scenes and spaces loaded with personal or communal meaning. Anderson's painting style is notable for the ease with which he slips between figuration and abstraction, playing with the tropes of earlier landscape traditions and 20th-century abstraction. His paintings of barbershop interiors, country tennis clubs and tropical roadsides teem with rich brushwork and multitudes of decorative patterns or architectural features, at once obscuring and adding to underlying ruminations on identity and place. Drawing on years of primary research, including interviews with the artist, his peers and his professional colleagues, Courtney J. Focussing on the artists Allan Kaprow, Marta Minujin, Carolee Schneemann and Lea Lublin, it charts how they revised and retooled the premises of the Happening within a wider network of dynamic international activity. The resulting performances directly intervened in the wider discourse of communication studies, as it manifested in the politics of countercultural dropout, soft power and cultural diplomacy, alternative pedagogies, sociological art and feminist consciousness-raising. -- .

Author Gregory Volk has known Katharina Grosse and written about her work since the very outset of her career, and has witnessed her journey from unique talent to radical visionary. As he suggests here, Grosse's continually developing practice, simultaneously ungainly and exhilarating, bewildering and liberating, radically extends the possibilities for contemporary abstract painting.
An exploration of recent work by the award-winning Dutch visual artist Berend Strik Berend Strik (b. 1960) is an internationally acclaimed Dutch visual artist whose oeuvre ranges from two-dimensional works to sculpture and architecture. He is best known for his embroidered found objects, including photographs. Since 2012, Strik has focused on a series he calls Deciphering the Artist's Mind; Strik has photographed the studios of well-known modern and contemporary artists, such as Marcel Duchamp, Jackson Pollock, John Baldessari, and Martha Rosler, and then stitched colorful materials into enlarged prints of the photographic images. This book, designed by Irma Boom, documents this series. Texts by Marja Bloem, in collaboration with Strik, explore the artist's visits to the studios, including encounters and conversations with many living artists. The visual documentation of the works and the insightful accompanying texts serve to fully investigate the themes that underpin the series, including the privileged space of artistic creativity and the impossibility of accessing an artist's thought processes.
