Lovereading view...

A German bestseller set in rural Germany but the sense of place could be any western rural European country. Set in the present it concerns a house and the memories it evokes in our protagonist who has just inherited it upon the death of her grandmother. She reflects back over the three generations who have lived there and gets a better understanding of the family secrets. It’s a gentle, atmospheric, slow tale.

If you like Katharina Hagena you might also like to read books by Deborah Moggach, Anne Tyler and Chloe Hooper.
