Carnage Coast is once again under threat by Lucifer, but will the Iron Warrior be able to once again come to its defence. Cataclysm is vol. 2 in The Iron Warrior series, a three part supernatural mystery series where Travis Holliday, God chosen to be the Iron Warrior in defence of Carnage coast, the last of seven battlefields left in the fight between good and evil. It’s a good idea to start with vol. 1 Slaying Paradise to meet and understand more about The Iron Warrior and its purpose, as when we reunite with Travis, he’s not doing too well. By isolating himself and indulging in impurity and darkness, his strength as the Iron Warrior is faltering. With foe on the horizon, will he be strong enough to help Detective Walters solve a slew of murders before time runs out. I liked the blend of fantasy and crime fiction, and so I enjoyed that Cataclysm is structured so we follow the case and the supernatural culprits, while also seeing Travis / The Iron Warrior battle with himself. Although the descriptor of being chosen by God as some kind of superhero figure, I liked that there was conflict and flaws in Travis’ character, it makes him more interesting and removes the risk of him becoming too righteous. Cataclysm introduces us to new side characters as well as reuniting us with characters from the first book. I liked Detective Rebecca Walters, and Crystal and I think that the team behind The Iron Warrior will be a force to be reckoned with as we head into the final volume.
