"We need to be proactive and plan our self-care and make ourselves a priority. This book should be recommended reading for everyone, but especially for those who are already starting on the road to burnout."
I listened to the audio version of this book and found it to be a very thorough, well-explained book. The topic of self-care encompasses so much more than I first thought. The book is full of helpful and relevant information. I liked how the author starts with the basics and explains what emotional self-care is and why we need it. The mind and body are intertwined and the body emits warnings if we are out of balance. I liked the author’s positive message that if we prioritize self-care, we can avoid burnout. Taking time for self-care can reduce anxiety, depression and the feeling of being overwhelmed. The author encourages readers to maintain a positive mindset and accept reality. The book discusses all the things we can do, from simple deep breathing to meditation. The aim is thriving rather than just surviving. Also suggested are: keeping a gratitude list, journaling, drinking healthy teas, yoga, having good quality sleep and good eating habits. It is well worth reading this book to educate yourself on this vitally important topic. We need to be proactive and plan our self-care and make ourselves a priority. This book should be recommended reading for everyone, but especially for those who are already starting on the road to burnout.

One of the most crucial things you can do for your health and wellbeing is practice self-care. Even though life might be hectic and overwhelming, it's important to schedule time for self-care. Focusing on what you need when you need it with the goal of health and well-being is what self-care entails. Resting when necessary, eating natural foods, exercising the body, meditating, maintaining good relationships, having fun, and giving up harmful behaviors or bad habits are all examples of self-care. Anything that is concerned with your wellness is on the list. Innate wisdom takes control when the body has been mistreated long enough and self-care is not a top concern. The body transmits signals. Sometimes prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, or other harmful vices are used to ignore or suppress the warnings. It is necessary to pay attention in order to restore the body's balance. The body's wise way of signaling that you need help is through symptoms. By digging deeper and posing the sometimes challenging questions, healing occurs. What causes this symptom to appear? What does my body say to me? What changes in behavior are necessary? Which feeling is associated with this symptom? Instead of stifling a problem, even more, further inquiries need to be made. The problem will keep returning unless the fundamental reason is fixed. The balance will exist after the underlying problem has been resolved. Traditional Chinese medicine holds that the body links specific emotions to specific organs. The heart is connected with joy, the kidneys with fear, the liver-gallbladder with wrath, and the spleen with anxiety and overthinking. Grief has a connection to the lungs. So, you may think about a potential emotional link the next time a symptom is encountered. Many moms and caregivers, especially women, fall into the trap of providing too much and failing to set limits. The adrenal glands get worn out or worse, depleted, which throws the body's systems out of balance. Saying no when it's required in this situation is self-care. The best plan of action for everyone concerned involves saying no to things or people and yes when self-care is called for. The quality of life is improved when caregivers take the necessary time to rest, replenish, and revitalize themselves. The greatest way to engage in self-care is to pay attention to your body. That could include accepting certain painful realities, but in the end, when self-care is done properly, it leads to health, pleasure, and well-being. Giving yourself the care you need is not being selfish. There is nothing left to give to others if you don't take care of your needs and value yourself. While taking an emotional-self-awareness course can help you become more self-aware, it can also equip and empower you to negotiate with others more effectively in both personal and professional settings. With a deeper comprehension of human emotions, you become significantly more adept at interacting with people pleasantly and effectively. You frequently transform an aggressive environment into a cordial one by moving fluidly through difficult meetings and unpleasant scenarios. This is the thing that makes leaders, and with the professional coaching from a course, you may develop a very high degree of emotional intelligence and succeed as a leader. Gaining emotional intelligence may be financially advantageous in ways you would never have imagined. Consider a person who is unable to make decisions due to a flurry of mixed emotions. While someone with high emotional intelligence can make that option on his own because he is self-aware, he contacts a professional in the hopes of making a better choice. Now consider how many hours of work would be lost if this bad decision-making was indulged in constantly. Multiply it by the total number of hours he has billed to his employer or, if he is self-employed, to himself. It represents a massive loss of human potential. Be a leader by being emotionally self-aware. Many others, including Gandhi, Lincoln, and Mandela, were emotionally self-aware individuals who had control over their emotions. Consider what you get to add in rather than what you might need to give up practicing greater self-care. You just cannot afford to overlook the various illnesses and diseases that are connected to inadequate self-care practices! To live your greatest life, it's crucial to keep yourself at the top of your priority list. There is a significant difference between surviving and THRIVING.
