In Praise of Shadows (Collector's Edition, Night Edition) is a collection of essays by the great Japanese writer Junichiro Tanizaki, containing six essays of In Praise of Shadows, On Laziness, Love and Eroticism, Annoyance of Entertaining Guests, Random Thoughts on Travailing and Various Toilets, which are the representative works of Junichiro Tanizaki. In Praise of Shadows, the best known one among these essays, extending from the view that the Beauty of the Oriental architecture comes from the shadows, discusses the subtlety of Oriental architecture and arts. Other essays in this book are about the differences between the Oriental and Western cultures. With the writing fluent and free, widely quoted and full of wit and humors, it could be said that Junichiro Tanizaki established a Tanizaki Style Oriental aesthetic system.
