"The science fiction setting and use of technology and robotics creates a sinister world, one where you don’t know what new creation might be lurking around the corner."
The fight is personal and universal as Dray Quintero continues his stand against The Agency and their quest for complete control. ‘The Price of Rebellion’ by Michael C Bland is the second in The Price Of series. Although it is possible to follow the events of this book without having read the first book, I would recommend you start with ‘The Price of Safety’ so you’re not playing catch up in the early chapters. In this science fiction thriller, the population has implants allowing those in power to keep everyone constantly under surveillance and handle any opposition swiftly. After uncovering this truth and suffering a great loss, Dray Quintero wants to fight against the technology he initially helped to build and avenge the loss of his daughter. As hope fades and the battle to change his country and save his family diverge, the stakes are high and there are many pitfalls and revelations along the way to keep you guessing about what will happen next. There are lots of strong male and female characters in this series. I liked Dray’s daughter Raven and her determination to fight no matter the personal cost. Dray himself is a complex character, eager to make a difference yet sometimes hindered by overprotectiveness for the ones he loves. The science fiction setting and use of technology and robotics creates a sinister world, one where you don’t know what new creation might be lurking around the corner. The rebellion are disadvantaged in terms of resources but their resilience means you can’t rule them out of this fight. Building to a jaw-dropping climax, readers will be keen to discover what happens in the final part of the trilogy.
