A revenge fantasy gets out of hand in this fast paced thriller. What would you do if you found out your husband was having an affair? When Rose’s hair client starts talking about her new boyfriend, she immediately identifies him as her husband Olly. heartbroken and angry Rose doesn’t know what to do but wants Em to pay for trying to take her man. When wistful dreams of revenge descend into a real plan, things race out of Rose’s control. Now that events are in motion can Rose keep her family safe and will she be able to get her husband back? Cutting It Fine is a fast paced thriller. The author does a great job at creating a stifling overwhelming atmosphere as Rose discovers Olly’s affair and is first locked into inaction, then caught up in the aftermath of trusting the wrong person with her fantasies of revenge. The effect is a claustrophobic read, where I felt as smothered as Rose, sitting mutely urging her to communicate with her husband and say that she knows about the affair. I wanted to shake Rose as events unfolded and she’s left scrambling to try and pick up the pieces. I wouldn’t say that any of the key characters were particularly likeable, Harold and Walter are probably my favourites and provided a calm side story amongst the turmoil. However the mix of characters creates a perfect storm for this scenario and leads to a whirlwind of a narrative and Rose’s problems escalate. A good book for readers looking for a quick to read contemporary thriller.
