LoveReading Says

Multiple murders, a twisting investigation that throbs with intrigue of the personal, political and sexual kind, and a female PI at the helm of the inquiry - Karen Rose’s New Orleans-set Quarter to Midnight ticks all the boxes for readers who like their thrillers to have a high body count (and we mean high) and a heady dose of romance.

Greed, ruthless political ambition, lust – it’s a viper’s nest of deadly sins, with the twists (and many deaths) snaking back to a murder that took place in the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

When former cop Rocky is found dead, it’s written off by the police as suicide, but his son Gabe, a celebrity chef who sets a whole lot of hearts a-pounding, is certain it’s murder, and so he turns to the Burke Broussard Private Investigation Agency to uncover the truth. Burke puts Molly on the case, a former marine and former cop whose own father was killed in terrible circumstances. She’s had a crush on Gabe for some time and, as it happens, she “was exactly his type, golden blond with a face like Grace Kelly and a body like Marilyn Monroe. But it was more than her looks. There was something about her that settled him.

The plot unravels at tremendous pace as Molly and Gabe discover that Rocky was investigating a murder linked to a young witness from the time Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans. A high-octane cat and mouse trailing game folds with the surveilled under surveillance, a body count rising to crazy proportions, and the lives of everyone connected to Gabe and Molly under threat.

There are plenty of comic moments too - the high-stakes, ensemble-cast road chase scene is a notable tension easer. And, at the same time, the simmering lust between Gabe and Molly spills over into a full-on love connection.
