Smarter Clicking School Technology Policies That Work!

Synopsis

Smarter Clicking School Technology Policies That Work! by Christopher W. Wells

School leaders strive to use cutting-edge technology resources in ways that meet instructional needs and provide an appropriate and safe environment for students and staff members. Designed for administrators, school technology teams, and technology coordinators, this comprehensive and well written resource provides much-needed guidance for working with staff, parents, students, and community members to address instructional and privacy issues related to the use of current and emerging technologies. Christopher Wells defines the components of a school's technology system, explains the legal concerns and potential problems that may arise, and offers concrete strategies for successful development, communication, implementation, and maintenance of meaningful technology policies for schools and districts. Smarter Clicking: School Technology Policies That Work! contains leadership ideas to help educators support a collaborative learning culture through technology, rather than an environment where students and staff members feel restricted.

Reviews

Technological advances have changed teaching and learning in our schools. As key instructional leaders, principals must be prepared to regulate these advances. School leaders need up-to-date information about technology policies and how they affect teaching and learning. Smarter Clicking is an important resource in providing guidance for principals, administrators, and technology team members to develop technology policies and procedures that aid student learning. -- Gail Connelly, Executive Director Wells has carefully shared important information, examples, and resources that would be helpful to any district that is continually developing policies and procedures in technology. The author has developed a wonderful field guide for those who are charged with developing such policies. -- Donnan Stoicovy, Principal

About the Author

Christopher Wells is the IT policies and communications director for Gwinnett County Public Schools, the largest school district in Georgia. With more than 160,000 students in the district, he responds to the diverse, creative ways technology is being used in classrooms. Christopher presents regularly and his enthusiasm for his topic material is contagious (even if the audience thinks that technology policies and procedures are boring!). By incorporating realistic examples and messages with humor, compassion, and vision, Christopher consistently engages diverse audiences and leaves listeners focused and energized on the development of new resources for students and teachers. In the past, he worked for Arthur Andersen, a global consulting firm, and developed and managed a global distance learning consulting practice. Prior to that, Christopher was a high school science and computer science teacher, developing curricula for biology, ecology, environmental science, oceanography, science research, and AP Pascal classes. Christopher is a graduate of the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida, earning his BS in science education and biology and an MS in computer education with an emphasis on instructional technology. He is currently a PhD student at Walden University's College of Management and Technology in leadership and organizational change. Christopher is still actively involved in several organizations that involve youth and the natural world, including a youth retreat movement for middle school students and a sea turtle research project run on Wassaw Island, Georgia.
