A long-suffering alcoholic kills a high profile lawyer in a fit of road rage during a drunken blackout. After coming to his senses, he flees to the southwest to shed his past. Through a series of bizzare twists and turns, the dead lawyer's partner and two investigators assigned to the case suddenly realize they know the suspect after trying to help him in an earlier part of his chaotic life. The Arizona desert becomes the scene for a tense, powerful final rendevous.
