Synopsis

Law, Liability, and Ethics for Medical Office Professionals by Wendy Pardew, Myrtle (Blue Hills Regional Technical School, Canton, MA) Flight

Updated to reflect the newest changes to health care laws and technologies, LAW, LIABILITY, AND ETHICS FOR MEDICAL OFFICE PROFESSIONALS, SIXTH EDITION prepares you to face common legal and ethical dilemmas with confidence and integrity. Chapters start by indoctrinating you in the business of health care as well as the legal system in general, and then progress through legal topics such as standard of care, employment laws, criminal and tortious acts, contracts, negligence, medical malpractice, and other important matters of law. Next, you'll explore the sensitive side of medical offices, including patient confidentiality, patient health records and laws, professional ethics and behaviors, and the delicate issues you'll face alongside patient births and deaths. To deepen your perspective, this book includes many case studies, news stories, and anecdotes that share the consequences and positive impacts of certain professional behaviors and decisions in real-world terms. Additionally, learning features such as end-of-chapter activities, highlighted key terms, a full glossary, and a full suite of digital options allow you to practice making your own choices while grounding you in key laws. More than a text, this practical resource demonstrates your legal and ethical responsibilities on the job, as well as how to protect yourself, your employer, and your patients from malpractice and other legal exposures.
