Synopsis

The Homecoming by John Swinburne

The Homecoming is a work of fiction which is largely based on the life story of John Douglas who was the author's uncle. John was an adventurer and natural raconteur, and a serial volunteer. In 1910 he opted out of a military campaign in Afghanistan and deserted but went on to participate in another three Wars. In a sense this book is a social history of the early 20th century as well as a story of the extraordinary experiences of John Douglas.

About the Author

The Homecoming is John Swinburne's fourth book - but his first novel. He is a Director of Motherwell Football Club and his first three books were about the History of his Club. John served a mechanical engineering apprenticeship in the shipyards of Glasgow and Engineering Works in Central Scotland. He briefly worked as a freelance journalist in the late 1970s before serving as Commercial Manager at Motherwell F.C. for over 21 years. In February 2003 he founded a new political party for pensioners and eleven weeks later on 1st May 2003 he was elected to the Scottish Parliament when he received well over 17,000 votes. He served as a MSP in Holyrood for four years until 2007 for the Scottish Senior Citizens Unity Party.
