Flora's Orchids by Ned Nash, Isobyl La Croix

From the producers of the bestselling Illustrated Encyclopedia of Orchids (Timber Press, 1992) comes the definitive reference for orchid enthusiasts. More than 1500 orchids are described in full detail, with over 1500 stunning photographs showing plants in their native habitats wherever possible. Listed alphabetically by botanical name, each individual genus entry includes information on natural distribution, characteristics, cultivation, and propagation. The introduction includes step-by-step photographs of gardening techniques such as propagation, repotting, and transplanting. Also included are chapters on orchid history and taxonomy, pests and diseases, preparing orchids for exhibition, and conserving orchids in the wild. Reference tables show gardeners climate and cultivation information at a glance. The comprehensive glossary and index makes the wealth of information contained in Flora's Orchids easily accessible to anyone.

The book offers substance as well as style. --Janet A.--Janet A. Crum Library Journal
