Hocus Pocus by Paul Kieve

Lovereading view...

Abracadabra! This mysterious book will without doubt inspire the young apprentice magicians of the 21st century with the unveiling of basic conjuring tricks, some of which dazzled audiences in the age of Robert Houdin and The Great Lafayette. The reader gasps in disbelief as Paul Kieve tells us some of the great stories from the by-gone golden age of magic.

Hocus Pocus by Paul Kieve

The author keeps his magical paraphenalia in his house in Hackney. One day, as he is sitting in his 'Poster Room', chatting to a friend about how well his magic show went from the night before, he gets a strange sensation. Suddenly, the figure of Alexander steps out of the poster and starts telling Paul off for getting too big-headed.

'Whilst this is revelatory of the history of stage magic and many personalities, it also reveals some how-it-was-done tricks and encourages having a go'
