First published in 1983 and still as good today. Written by Lynley Dodd, who is a New Zealander, this is the first in a series of books about the adventures of a scruffy dog ‘Hairy McClary’. Rhyming, catchy and comical with brilliant characters and plots. And just so you know a ‘dairy’ in New Zealand is a corner shop.

The Good Book Guide logo The Good Book Guide Review. A joyous and absurd cumulative rhyme with funny pictures tells how a small dog - Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy and his friends, ‘Bottomley Potts all covered in spots' and ‘Hercules Morse as big as a horse' are put to flight by the toughest tom in town. The rhyming and repetition make this book excellent for reading practice.
