Synopsis

West of Windmill Hill by David Axtell

West of Windmill Hill recaptures former times in Holsworthy and the surrounding area as seen through the eyes of the author. Looking back to a childhood in the late forties and fifties he recalls local characters and considers changes which have taken place in a wider context since the late 1800s. David Axtell was born and educated in the West Country to which he has now returned with his wife and family after a career as a journalist in London.

Reviews

'David Axtell conveys the warmth of much of his upbringing in Holsworthy and Bude...a most delightful memoir as well as a worthy record to the passing years.'
George Care, Cornish World

'With affection and familiarity, the author recalls his youth...it affords us glimpses into the lives of previous generations.'
Kate Wood, Devon Life

'In capturing memories of life in Holsworthy, David Axtell brings the characters and history of his home town alive in charming detail.'
Jackie Butler, Western Morning News
