Mirrors Reflections of Style by Paula (Corcoran College of Art + Design) Phipps

Mirrors Reflections of Style by Paula (Corcoran College of Art + Design) Phipps

An ideal resource for anyone designing or re-creating period rooms or studying historical aesthetics, Mirrors looks at the ever-changing forms and uses of mirrors as major elements and points of emphasis in domestic interiors in the West. With a glimpse of their antecedents in classical antiquity and western Asia, the book traces a path from Louis XIV's Hall of Mirrors at Versailles and the royal and noble interiors that emulated it to mirrors in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century European and New World interiors and high-chic applications in twentieth- and twenty-first-century rooms. Mirror frames and furniture incorporating mirrors are also considered.

Not just a book on how one of the most commonplace household items can make a room look pretty, Mirrors: Reflections of Style is a resource for professional and amateur designers interested in the history of style, in recreating era-specific looks, and in using mirrors to their maximum decorative potential. . . .Through the images Phipps provides . . . .[I]t's easy to get lost in fantasy, but it's also possible to lay the groundwork for using the mirrors to beautifully and powerfully transform your living space. -- SuCasa Magazine More than just being a good read, the abundance of beautiful color photographs of interiors, objects, and sculpture makes this book a notable design resource as well. All around Mirrors is a great reference for inspiration! -- The Statement Blog This mixture of practicality and history, accompanied by beautiful photography, makes for a visually stimulating and informative read. -- Phoenix Home & Garden
