Clinical Surgery: A Practical Guide Synopsis

Clinical Surgery: A Practical Guide is a handbook for all trainees in surgery, providing an invaluable and expert guide to all aspects of clinical surgery that the trainee will encounter during their day to day work. General chapters on clinical examination, pre-operative, peri-operative and post-operative care are accompanied by expert guidance on how to deal with specific surgical problems, such as respiratory failure, wound healing, MRSA infection, tropical surgery and acute ischaemia. Further chapters provide invaluable information on topics including nutrition, anaesthsia, sutures and surgical incisions. The special problems associated with the surgical management of elderly patients are discussed, and the reader is introduced to the principles of surgical oncology and laparoscopic surgery. With its concise and easy-to read layout, Clinical Surgery: A Practical Guide is written by a team of expert surgeons, some of whom are also examiners for the Royal College of Surgeons. It is an invaluable on-the-job guide for Foundation level doctors on surgical rotation, as well as for those studying for the MRCS, FRCS and equivalent examinations.

Clinical Surgery: A Practical Guide Press Reviews

Although one may think from the title that this should be an operating manual for surgical trainees, a quick look inside this 434 page book confirms that it is actually a guide to key aspects of surgical patient management. Furthermore, it is surprisingly easy to read and chock full of important and useful facts. Each chapter has a number of key points which are boxed and is followed by a summary, self test questions and references including suggestions for further reading. -UNIVADIS 4 stars ... a valued addition to the subject ... well researched ... excellent bibliographies throughout ... concise and up to date ... a well-written text suited for all peri-MRCS trainees and I highly recommend it. -Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons a very useful handbook-sized guide to the breadth of surgery-in-general ... well-structured throughout, with good use of tables, illustrations and summaries -Association of Surgeons in Training Yearbook, 2009-2010
