Rollercoasters Noble Conflict

by Malorie Blackman

Part of the Rollercoasters Series

Rollercoasters Noble Conflict Synopsis

Years after a violent war destroyed much of the world, Kaspar has grown up in a society based on peace and harmony. But beyond the city walls, a vicious band of rebels is plotting to tear this peace apart. It is up to the Guardians - an elite peacekeeping force - to protect the city, without ever resorting to the brutal methods of their enemy. When Kaspar joins the Guardians, he has a chance encounter with a rebel named Rhea. Haunted from that moment on by strange visions and memories, he realizes he hasn't been told the truth about what he's really fighting for.

Rollercoasters Noble Conflict Press Reviews

The reader is aware of Blackman's enjoyment in her writing and also the moral heart that beats at the core of this hard-hitting, exciting fiction. With the eagerly anticipated Noble Conflict, her legions of fans have a treat in store. The Guardian The end of the novel provides a nice touch - Blackman's narrative moves beyond the novel and into her additional 'hyper-texts'. A selection of live websites that give another perspective and broaden the plot - a gift to the KS3 teacher! Noble Conflict has Blackman doing what she does best - exploring issues. And, as always, with Blackman, her writing is enjoyable and accessible, whilst her issues are complex. KS3 readers of all abilities will access the text and not be patronised as the themes under discussion are operating at a much higher level than the language itself. This is what I feel is the particular success of the novel. Teaching English - NATE
