LoveReading Says

So very readable, this debut is an amusing, sparkling and smart look at contemporary life. When separate calamities hit publicist Ginny and her neighbour, actress Cassie, they might just find a helping hand closer than they thought. While the friendship between the two women grows, potential love interests also enter their lives. I adore the fact that the occasionally feisty friendship between two neighbours of different ages takes centre stage. Can I say that Cassie rather steals the show with her antics, she certainly made me smirk, but this isn’t all fun and frothy frolics. Nicola Gill takes a thoughtful step into the more challenging and emotional side of life, handling the difficulties experienced with beautiful consideration. Fresh, witty and sharp, yet warm, wise and loving, The Neighbours really is a rather gorgeous read!

A perfectly constructed story from beginning to end, my interest never faltered once.

I am in love with this book! With a cast of deliciously likeable characters, The Neighbours by Nicola Gill gets everything right. The result is a fantastic read.
I had a few reservations before starting this, fearing it may be the tiresome standard chick-lit stuff – but boy was I wrong! At the heart of this book is friendship - though an unlikely one, certainly a believable one which, even days after finishing the book, remains with me. The concept of women and age is also something that is highlighted throughout the story.

The humour in this book is spot-on, and Ginny is the most likeable protagonist in a story that never quite goes the way you expect it.... Read Full Review

Light, undemanding, very current chick-lit, feel-good and life-affirming.

This is an unassuming, undemanding, quick read. Essentially a fluffy rom-com, chick-lit very current and switched on the overwhelming celebrity trends, trash tv, celeb culture and mental health awareness nowadays so present everywhere. It is a quick read, short chapters, live in London, thirty-somethings obsessed with having babies or having a career split. I read it very quickly, it was a placid and unhurried style, with next to none of the descriptions or stagnant moments. As a plot it is not dense or heavy, perfect holiday read and perfect switch-off, escapism read.... Read Full Review

Great story, friendship despite the age well written loved it.

A really heart-warming book due to be published on the 6th February 2020 - will make a great sunbed read in 2020.

A lovely story of friendship between Ginny and Cassie- there is 20 years between then but this does not hinder these neighbours. Ginny catches her boyfriend cheating with her line manager (what rats) so enviably she is jobless and life is rubbish for her. Both neighbours despite the age gap come to realise they need each other. There is a dark side too but is written well and tackled well.

There were times when the book was funny, emotional and was faced with difficult circumstances - these all went into the melting pot to produce a lovely book more of friendship than romance.... Read Full Review
