The Paper Men by William Golding, Andrew Martin

Lovereading view...

This complex literary comedy, with more than a hint of Golding himself behind the character of Barclay, is about a the fading success of one author and the single minded dogged determination of another to be his official biographer what ever the cost. The Paper Men has an introduction from journalist and novelist Andrew Martin.

These William Golding books have been re-published, with new covers and introductions from current authors, as part of the ongoing events marking the centenary of Golding’s birth in 1911.

To read an extract go down to Waterstone's or your local bookshop. Here at Lovereading we're unable to show an extract due to online rights not being available from William Golding Limited.

Synopsis

The Paper Men by William Golding, Andrew Martin

Fame, success, fortune, a drink problem slipping over the edge into alcoholism, a dead marriage, the incurable itches of middle-aged lust. For Wilfred Barclay, novelist, the final unbearable irritation is Professor Rick L. Tucker, implacable in his determination to become The Barclay Man. Locked in a lethal relationship they stumble across Europe, shedding wives, self-respect and illusions. The climax of their odyssey, when it comes, is as inevitable as it is unexpected.
