The State We're in by Adele Parks

Lovereading view...

A stunning book about family and love which is peopled with very real characters. You really must not say anything about it, just read it, cry, and pass it on or recommend it to friends; it’s beautiful. A highly romantic girl meets a true cynic and falls in love. Can it work? That is what is explored here through their feelings and their backgrounds. It is full of twists you really don’t see coming. Here is an author who has greatly matured over the years. You must read her.

If you like Adele Parks you might also like to read books by Polly Williams, Joanna Trollope and India Knight.

Synopsis

The State We're in by Adele Parks

THE STATE WE'RE IN is the stunning, emotionally powerful new novel from Sunday Times bestselling author Adele Parks. What are the odds that the stranger sitting next to you on a plane is destined to change your life? Especially when they appear to be your opposite in every way. She's a life-long optimist, looking for her soul mate in every man she meets; he's a resolute cynic - cruel experience has taught him never to put his faith in anyone. People can surprise you. In the time it takes to fly from London to Chicago, each finds something in the other that they didn't even realise they needed. Their pasts are such that they can never make one another happy and it's when they get off the plane that their true journey begins...

Reviews

'Wonderfully plotted, moving and insightful...this is Parks' best yet, completely deserving of the accolades currently being heaped upon it and shot through with funny, tender and observant moments. I loved it' Daily Mail

'Full of emotional set-pieces and real insight into relationships between men and women' Heat

'She is a particularly acute observer of relationship ups and downs, and her stories are always as insightful as they are entertaining' Daily Mirror
