Sarah Broadhurst's view...

A terrific idea for this brings Dr Frankenstein and his monsters into the 21st century. It’s the second of three, written in short, sharp, compulsive chunks with so many fantastic scenarios. I think he’s great. We featured the 1st one Prodigal Son in April 2005 if you want to read them in order.

Comparison: Peter Straub, Stephen King, Neil Gaiman.
Similar this month: None but you’ll love the Stephen Donaldson and the Terry Pratchett.

If you like Dean Koontz and Ed Gorman you might also like to read books by Peter Straub, Stephen King and Neil Gaiman.

Who is Sarah Broadhurst

Dean Koontz's Frankenstein : Book Two - City of Night by Dean Koontz and Ed Gorman

The legendary monster has survived the centuries to become a haunted and heroic figure dedicated to battling the truly monstrous evil that has also survived the years: the cruel genius who gave him life, Dr Frankenstein.

His name is Deucalion. Having failed to kill his maker, scarred and strange, he lives with monks in Tibet until news reaches him of the next generation of Dr Frankenstein's monsters. He travels to New Orleans where they are wreaking havoc, and where a cool, tough cop, Detective Carson O'Connor, doesn't know she is pursuing killers that are more – and less – than human. But Deucalion does. Dean Koontz, the master storyteller, creates a bold new legend.

'Dean Koontz is not just a master of our darkest dreams, but also a literary juggler' The Time

'Psychologically complex, masterly and satisfying’ The New York Times

'Koontz has near-Dickensian powers of description, and an ability to yank us from one page to the next that few novelists can match' Los Angeles Time
